1965 Emperador Marble Coffee Table by Davis Allen and Gordon Bunshaft for SOM DesignThis is a custom designed minimalist coffee table, featuring an impressive slab of fine Spanish Emperador Marble which is perched atop a welded and hand polished stainless steel frame. It was designed in ca. 1965 by Davis Allen and Gordon Bunshaft on behalf of the architectural firm Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM). Bunshaft was a leading force in the architecture and design world. Davis Allen worked closely with and under Bunshaft to execute
it was their take on the ‘International Style’
this base is in good condition with ample signs of use
New upholstery is recommended
in that they moved from that showroom location in 1950 to the 575 Madison Avenue showroom
They roll and swivel smoothly
though are guaranteed as authentic
The sofa has some wear and a lovely patina
though is in very nice shape overall
Some nicks on the legs and feet are apparent
They do show minimal wear from use
The chairs have ebonized wood frames with red fabric upholstery
The cantilevered frame is formed of chrome-plated tubular steel and its seat retains its original light tan leather upholstery
